
Rifle Takes Title at Ole Miss Invitational

OXFORD, Miss. - The TCU rifle team kicked off the 2009-10 campaign in style, taking home the title at the Ole Miss Invitational. The Horned Frogs led the field of 15 with an aggregate score of 4,641 (Smallbore: 2,295; Air Rifle: 2,346). Freshman Sarah Scherer took home the air rifle title with a personal best score of 595.Four Frogs finished in the top seven to help TCU claim the top spot in the smallbore competition. Caitlin Morrissey paced the team with a 579 to finish fourth. Claiming the fifth, sixth and seventh place were Erin Lorenzen with a 578, Kaitlin Pennell with a 577 and Emily Paper with a 576. Sarah Beard placed ninth with a tally of 574.
The Frogs claimed the top two spots and seven of the top 10 in air rifle to finished first overall in the competition. After Scherer's victory, Simone Riford came in second with a score of 588. Beard and Morrissey shot a 585 to place fifth and sixth, respectively. Rounding out the top 10 were Pennell and Lorenzen with scores of 583 and Christen Wilson with a tally of 582.
TCU will next be in action on Oct. 17 when they host Kentucky. The match will take place at the TCU Rifle Range.
