
Rifle Drops Close Match To Alaska-Fairbanks

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU rifle team suffered its first set back of the season as they dropped a hard-fought match to Alaskas-Fairbanks 4,660-4,639 Wednesday at the TCU Rifle Range. Freshman Sarah Scherer led the Frogs, placing second in the match with an aggregate score of 1,169.
The air rifle portion of the match was decided by three points with the Nanooks squeaking out the 2,354-2,351 victory. Scherer placed second in the event with a score of 591, while Simone Riford finished third with a mark of 590 in the event. Rounding out the Frogs' scorers in the event were Erin Lorenzen who shot a 587 and Caitlin Morrissey who fired a 583. While not a counter in the final tally, sophomore Mattie Brogdon shot a solid 588 in the match.
Alaska-Fairbanks locked up the match victory with a strong effort in the smallbore as they took a 2,306-2,288 win. Scherer finished third, shooting a solid score of 578. Emily Paper shot a 576 followed closely by Lorenzen's 574. Brogdon rounded out the event with a score of 560.
TCU returns to match action on Nov. 7 when it travels to Kentucky for a meeting with Murray State.
