FORT WORTH, Texas - Fresh off a season-opening tournament victory at Ole Miss, the TCU rifle team will open up its home schedule with a meet against Kentucky. The all-day event on Saturday will begin in the morning. The Frogs will host five matches this season as well as hosting the NCAA Rifle Championships in March.
SCOUTING THE HORNED FROGS
The Horned Frogs took home top honors in a 15-team invitational at Ole Miss to open the season the first weekend in October. Freshman Sarah Scherer had an outstanding tournament, firing a 595 in air rifle to earn a first-place finish. Simone Riford was the top Horned Frog finisher in smallbore with a score of 588.
The Frogs return all shooters from last season's squad that finished fifth at the NCAA championships. They welcomed seven talented freshmen to the squad this season.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Kentucky has taken part in two contests already this season and walked away winners after defeating North Carolina State (4,668-4,525) and Memphis (4,668-4535). Both of the matches took place at Kentucky, so Saturday's match at TCU will be their first road test of the year.
The shooters to watch for Kentucky are All-Americans Tom Csenge and Ashley Jackson. The Wildcats are a veteran team with six upperclassmen on their roster. They claimed a second-place finish last year at the NCAA Rifle Championships.
