
Frogs Roll To 3-0 Win Over Rebels

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs rolled to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-21) victory over UNLV Thursday night at the University Rec Center, improving to 6-2 in league play. The six wins in the first round of conference play is a school record. Lauren Otto paced the team offensively with 11 kills.The Frogs had contributions all over the lineup. After Otto's 11 kills, Irene Hester pitched in with 10 and Kourtney Edwards with seven. Christy Hudson finished with six kills to go along with eight digs. Megan Munce pitched in 33 assists, six digs and four kills. Katelyn Blackwood led all defensive players with 18 digs in the three sets.
Kristen Hester got the Frogs rolling in the first set as TCU raced out to a 4-1 lead and never looked back. Early hitting errors by the Rebels helped the lead move to 8-3 then the Frog offense came to life with kills from Irene Hester and Otto. A blast by Hudson on the right side made it a 16-10 contest.
Edwards helped the Frogs maintain their six point advantage with one of her three kills in the set to make it 19-13 spurring a 5-0 run with Otto behind the service line. A loud kill from Munce gave TCU a 10-point advantage at 23-13 and a kill from Edwards made it a 24-15 contest. A miscue by the Rebels sealed the 25-15 set one victory.
A reversal in the second set saw the Rebels get out to the quick 4-2 lead, but the Frogs battled back to tie the set at five on kills from Irene Hester and Munce. A kill from Otto put the Frogs up for good. Three straight kills from Otto, Hudson and Edwards extended the Frog lead to five, 12-7.
Following a Rebel timeout with the Frogs in control at 15-11, the Frogs put together a 7-2 run to open up a commanding 22-13 lead. Along the way, Munce, Edwards and Kristen Hester powered the Frog offense. An attack error by the Rebels gave the Frogs set point and Kristen Hester finished the 25-17 win with her second kill of the set.
The most spirited set of the match saw the Horned Frogs erase a 13-9 deficit and rally for the 25-21 win to ensure the sweep. Kristen Hester and Meghan Horio served the Frogs on a 7-2 run that put the Frogs up 16-15. Otto racked up three kills in the run and Horio served up her lone ace of the match.
UNLV would tie the set at 17, but a service error put the Frogs back on top to stay. A kill from Irene Hester made it 24-21 and a block on the right side by Hudson and Kristen Hester locked up the match victory for the Frogs.
TCU (17-5) will open up the second half of conference action Thursday night against Colorado State. The match will be seen on a tape-delay basis on The Mtn. The Frogs will host a "Purple Out" as they try and set a school attendance record. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the University Rec Center.
