
Langford, Sverrisdottir Named TCU Athletes of the Week

FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU Athletics selected basketball players Kevin Langford and Helena Sverrisdottir as its Student-Athletes of the Week for standout performances last week.Langford averaged 28.5 points and 4.5 rebounds last week while leading the TCU men's team to a 1-1 record. The Fort Worth native went for a career-high 36 points on 13-of-19 shooting during a Jan. 21 home overtime win over Wyoming. Langford also pulled down eight boards and went 10-of-11 at the free-throw line. He scored 21 points the following outing at New Mexico, again with a strong presence at the charity stripe (10-of-13). The 21 points moved Langord into a tie for 22nd place on TCU's all-time scoring list with former Frog Ronny Stevenson (1957-59) with 1,084 points.
Sverrisdottir shot 57.1 percent overall from the field during the Lady Frogs' two matchups with per game averages of 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals. Like Langford, Sverrisdottir scored 20-plus points in each of her outings. She scored 21 points during the Jan. 21 win over Wyoming with eight rebounds, and she went 10-for-11 from the free-throw line, including a 6-for-6 showing in the final minute and a half to help the Frogs hold of the Cowgirls. Sverrisdottir set a career high the following game with 25 points at No. 23 New Mexico on Jan. 25. She went 10-for-10 from the charity stripe to extend her streak of consecutive free throws made to 18 over the two contests. She also had eight rebounds to go along with three steals and three assists.
The TCU men return home Feb. 4, as they wrap up the first rotation of their Mountain West Conference schedule by playing host to Utah at 6:30 p.m. The game will be televised nationally by The Mountain West Sports Network (The Mtn.) on DirecTV channel 616. The Lady Frogs face the Utah women's team in Salt Lake City the same night at 9 p.m. CST. That game will also be broadcast live on The Mtn.
