FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU women's tennis team will open it's 2008-09 season this weekend at the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by the University of Georgia, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The tournament is scheduled as a round robin event of singles and doubles; there will be no team scoring.
The tournament field features the Frogs, Duke, Georgia, Indiana, Ole Miss, Virginia and Wake Forest. On Friday and Saturday, play will begin with doubles at 10 a.m. and then singles action is slated for 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. On Sunday, doubles will begin at 9 a.m. followed by singles at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Leading the Frogs will be seniors Anna Sydorska and Macall Harkins. The duo were both selected to All-MWC Singles and Doubles teams last season and will open up the year ranked as the No. 9 doubles team in the country. Nina Munch-Soegaard, ranked No. 47 in ITA preseason singles rankings, will look to continue her solid play for the Purple and White.
TCU returns seven letterwinners from last season's squad that posted a 20-6 overall record, was named the Mountain West Conference regular season title outright, and earn the program's fifth consecutive NCAA appearance. Jefferson Hammond was named the MWC Coach of the Year, while four players earned all-conference singles accolades and two doubles teams received recognition.
