Team Notes
TCU won its Mountain West Conference opener for the first time since 2005, the last time it claimed the league title. The 2005 campaign also represented the Horned Frogs' debut season in the MWC.
TCU improved to 42-0 when allowing 17 or fewer points under head coach Gary Patterson. Overall, the Frogs have won 57 consecutive games when holding the opponent to 17 points or less.
TCU improved to 30-3 since 2005 when playing on any day of the week other than Thursday. The Frogs are 27-3 on Saturdays over the last four seasons.
The Frogs won their season opener for the sixth straight season. Patterson is now 6-2 in season openers as TCU's head coach.
TCU has won four straight road season openers.
In their last four season openers, the Frogs have surrendered a total of just 20 points.
TCU scored first against New Mexico for the fourth consecutive season, representing every meeting in the MWC history between the teams. In all four games, the Frogs have opened the game with a lead of at least 16-0.
The Frogs won for the 20th consecutive game when holding the edge in time of possession. The Frogs held the ball for 34:52.
TCU was plus-2 in turnover margin. Over the last four seasons, TCU is 25-1 when ahead (22-1) or even (3-0) in that category.
The Frogs are 20-1 in their last 21 games when allowing less than 333 yards of offense. New Mexico had 190 total yards.
The Frogs rushed for 171 yards to win for the 21st consecutive time when totaling at least 167 yards on the ground.
TCU held New Mexico to 60 yards rushing. The Frogs are 44-5 under Patterson when holding their opponent under 100 yards on the ground.
TCU improved to 37-5 when holding its opponent at or below 300 yards in total offense.
The TCU defense collected five sacks Saturday.
Individual Notes
Three frogs made their first collegiate starts Saturday: safety Tekerrein Cuba, offensive tackle Marcus Cannon and wide receiver Jimmy Young.
True freshman Ross Evans was successful on a 50-yard field goal on his first collegiate attempt. It tied for the 12th-longest field goal in TCU history. Evans later added a 39-yard field goal.
In Evans and defensive end Ross Forrest, TCU had a pair of true freshmen play in the first quarter.
Andy Dalton had scoring runs of 11 and four yards to give him seven career rushing touchdowns. Dating back to last season, six of those rushing touchdowns have come in the last four games.
Dalton's 17 rushes were five more than his previous high of 12 set last season at BYU.
Steven Coleman's first-quarter interception was the seventh of his career, tops among active Frogs. Coleman also totaled a career-high two pass breakups.
Joseph Turner's 2-yard touchdown run was the eighth rushing score of his career. He led last year's team with six rushing touchdowns.
Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley's first-quarter pass incompletion was the first of his career. He completed both his pass attempts last season for a quarterback rating of 326.80.
Robert Henson recorded nine tackles to surpass the 200-career mark while leading the Frog defense in the category Saturday. He entered the game with 199 stops and now has 208.
Defensive end Jerry Hughes recorded the second interception of his career with a fourth-quarter pick. Hughes had an interception at Wyoming last season.
Linebacker Daryl Washington matched a career high with seven tackles.
Receivers Jimmy Young and Walter Bryant let TCU with four receptions each. Young's total marked a career-high.
