EUGENE, Ore. - Former Flyin' Frog Khadevis Robison's bid for a second-straight Olympics in the 800 meters fell short on Monday night at Hayward Field.
Robinson, who was passed at the line by a diving Christian Smith of Nike, clocked a time of 1:45.53 to place fourth overall and just miss a qualifying spot on the Olympic team. Robinson led for most of the race until being passed by eventual winner Nicholas Symmonds with less then 100 meters to go.
"I knew coming down the last homestretch that it was going to be tough. I tried to fight for it, but I had nothing left. I had a great ride and now its time to get back to the drawing board and go from there," said Robinson. "You know, when God closes one door he opens another. I have to take my hat off to those guys, they ran really well and deserve to be on the team."
While at TCU, Robinson, who competed in the 2004 Olympics, won the 1998 NCAA Outdoor 800 meters to cap his college career. He is also a four-time U.S. outdoor national champion in the 800.
Current Flyin' Frogs Mychal Dungey and Otis McDaniel will have to wait until later this week to find out if they will compete in Eugene.
