After notching their best finish at the Mountain West Conference Championships to go along with their 19th consecutive NCAA Regional Appearances - several members of the TCU men's golf program will look to build on their success during the summer months in domestic as well as international tournaments.
Sacheck Heads Overseas for Prestigious British Amateur
Fresh off the heels of his first NCAA National Championship experience - James Sacheck (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville H.S.) will head to Scotland for the prestigious British Amateur at The Westin Turnberry Resort.
Sacheck will join future Frogs Alexander Knappe (Germany) and Johan de Beer (South Africa) in one of the top-two individual tournaments for amateur golfers in the world alongside the U.S. Amateur.
"I think this is the first time since I've been coaching here that I have one guy let alone three competing in the British Amateur," said TCU head men's golf coach Bill Montigel. "This is an incredible experience for James, Alexander and Johan to be competing in this field - which has somewhere around 300 players in it. I'm excited that these guys will be competing against some of the best competition in the world," added Montigel.
Woolf Impresses at the Texas State Amateur
Travis Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas/Paschal H.S.) recorded an impressive showing at the 99th Annual Texas State Amateur at the Houston Country Club as the TCU sophomore tied for third overall with a one-under-par score of 287. The Fort Worth, Texas, product was among the leaders throughout the Texas State Amateur and held the lead after the second round of action.
"I'm incredibly impressed with Travis. Every time that I talk to him on the phone - he tells me about his workouts and how he's doing all of the necessary things in order to get better. He's definitely putting in the time, and I'm not surprised one bit that he's been playing this well," added Montigel.
Woolf will look to build upon his third-place showing at the Texas State Amateur as he will join teammate Tom Hoge (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South H.S.) and future Frog Eli Cole (Beverly Hills, Calif./Harvard-Westlake H.S.) this weekend at the 93rd Annual Southwestern Amateur at the Twin Warriors Golf Club in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.
