
TCU names Athletes of the Week

FORT WORTH, Texas - Men's baseball player Trent Appleby and women's track sprinter Virgil Hodge were named TCU's Male and Female Athletes of the Week on Tuesday, while the Gulliver's Road Warrior of the Week award has been given to men's track and field athlete Justyn Warner.Appleby tossed five scoreless innings, while striking out a career-high six batters to help No. 25 TCU upend Utah 6-4 on Sunday at Lupton Stadium. The McKinney native, who is 4-1 on the year after downing Utah, threw three innings against UT-Arlington on April 30, allowing only one run on six hits with four strikeouts.
Hodge once again led TCU this past Saturday at the UTA Open on the campus of UT-Arlington.
The senior earned runner-up honors in the women's 200 meters, crossing the finish line in 23.06. She was clipped at the line by Baylor's Tiffany Townsend.
Overall, Hodge recorded the No. 10 time in the NCAA this season at UTA. She currently leads the MWC in both the 100 and 200, while also being a part of the league leading 4x100 relay unit.
Warner had another solid weekend for TCU as he clocked a regional qualifying time of 10.31 to finish in second-place in the 100 meters at the UTA Open. Warner was the top collegiate runner in the event and posted the 14th best mark in the NCAA this spring. His time of 10.31 puts him in the top 50 in the world standings in the 100.
