FORT WORTH--TCU guard Adrianne Ross will travel to Tampa, Fla., this weekend to showcase her skills at the annual WNBA Pre-Draft Camp at the University of Tampa on April 4-5. Ross was among a group of 38 players included on the initial list of accepted invitees to the event.
The Pre-Draft Camp helps serve as an evaluator for coaches and general managers from all 14 WNBA teams leading up to next week's WNBA draft, which will be held Wednesday, April 9 at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla. During the two-day camp, prospects compete against one another in drills, half-court scenarios and full-court scrimmages during three on-court sessions.
Ross hopes to become the second TCU player to reach the WNBA, joining former teammate and current Lady Frog Director of Operations Sandora Irvin, who is entering her fourth season as a professional with the San Antonio Silver Stars. Irvin was the No. 3 overall pick of the 2005 draft by the Phoenix Mercury.
A native of Hobbs, N.M., Ross closed out her career as one of the top players ever to don a TCU uniform. Her 1,725 points rank second on the Frogs' career chart, while she owns school records for steals (339), games played (135) and field-goal attempts (1,562). She also ranks second all-time in career field goals made (627) and third in assists (387) and games started (110).
Ross concluded her college career by leading TCU to a runner-up finish in the Mountain West Conference regular-season standings this season, in addition to helping the Lady Frogs reach the quarterfinal round of the Women's NIT. The 5-8 guard averaged 14.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.5 steals per game while starting 34 of 35 contests during her senior campaign. Ross finished the season with 499 points, the fifth-best single-season total in program history, and is set to earn her degree from TCU next month.
As a junior, she was named Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year and an honorable-mention All-American after posting averages of 17.3 points, 3.5 boards, 2.5 assists and 2.9 steals per game.
The 2008 WNBA Draft will begin at Noon CDT on April 9. ESPN2 will provide exclusive first-round coverage of the draft with continued coverage of the second and third rounds on both ESPNU and NBA TV.
