FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 23 TCU women's tennis team will open the Mountain West Conference Championships on Thursday at 2 p.m. against eighth-seeded Wyoming in the quarterfinals at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on the campus of TCU. The Horned Frogs won the regular season MWC title outright and are the top seed for the conference tournament.
TCU (18-4, 8-0) is led by sophomore Nina Munch-Soegaard and junior Anna Sydorska, who are ranked No. 61 and No. 106, respectively, in singles play. Freshman Katariina Tuohimaa leads the Frogs with an 18-4 mark in her first collegiate season. The doubles duo of Sydorska and Macall Harkins is ranked No. 16 nationally after posting a record of 13-5 at the top position.
Wyoming (11-12, 2-7) defeated Air Force by a score of 4-1 in Wednesday's opening-round match. The Frogs defeated the Cowgirls by a score of 5-2 earlier this season in Fort Worth. TCU holds a 6-0 advantage in the overall series against Wyoming that dates back to the 2001 season.
The Frogs will look for their fifth MWC title this weekend since joining the league prior to the start of the 2005-06 season. In their inaugural year in the MWC, the Frogs swept the regular season and tournament titles, and claimed a share of the regular season crown last year.
