
Kigen set for Mt. SAC Relays

FORT WORTH, Texas - Festus Kigen will represent the Flyin' Frogs tonight at the 50th running of the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.Kigen, a sophomore from Eldoret, Kenya, comes into the relays having placed first overall in the men's section A of the 1500 meters at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The sophomore, who will run the men's 5,000 meters tonight at 10:45 p.m. CT, crossed the finish line in Austin with a personal best time of 3:50.30.
This spring, Kigen, who has the ninth fastest 1500-meter time in the Mountain West Conference, has posted personal best marks in the 1500 meters and mile. At the Texas Relays, the Kenya native clocked a personal best time of 4:06.81 in the mile to finish ninth overall in a highly competitive field.
Last Season At The Mt. SAC Relays
Calandra Stewart notched a season-best time of 4:27.96 in the 1500 meters and placed 11th in her heat. Overall, Stewart finished 17th out of 28 runners. Winning the event was Seattle Pacific's Jessica Pixler, who finished in a time of 4:19.92.
Kigen, a native of Eldoret, Kenya, posted a time of 14:40.33 in the 5000 meters and finished 30th in the highly-competitive event. Winning the event was Tyson David of Central Arizona, who posted a winning time of 14:01.79.
Kigen This Fall
Kigen closed out the cross country season representing TCU at the NCAA Championships. Overall, he led TCU in every meet this fall and finished 10th at the South Central Regional to punch his ticket to NCAA Championships. His 15th-place effort at the Mountain West Championships led TCU in Albuquerque, N.M., while his 10K time of 30:04.03 at the regional ranked second in the Mountain West Conference. Kigen, who was named to the 2007 South Central Region cross country team, had a successful sophomore campaign, earning Mountain West Conference Athlete of the Week following a fifth-place finish at the Texas A&M Invitational on Sept. 22.
