FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU senior Cosmin Cotet was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. The award was the fourth for Cotet this season and the sixth for the men's tennis team.
Cotet battled back from an injury to post a combined mark of 4-0 to help TCU win its final two matches to claim a share of the Mountain West Conference regular season title over the weekend.
Cotet retired in singles play during the Utah match that TCU would drop, forcing the Horned Frogs to win the next two contests for a share of the title. Cotet would deliver, posting straight-set victories over Matan Shitrit of San Diego State and No. 41 Max Jones of New Mexico at the top position.
In doubles play, Cotet teamed up with Adrian Simon to defeat San Diego State's Schulz van Endert and Feliz and New Mexico's duo of Chris and Johnny Parkes at the No. 2 position.
The Iasi, Romania, native has posted a singles record of 19-7 at the No. 1 singles position this season, and has defeated eight nationally ranked opponents this spring.
The Frogs wrapped up the regular season on Wednesday at SMU, and will return to the courts on April 25 as the top seed in the Mountain West Conference Championships in Fort Worth. TCU will face the winner of the match between No. 4 UNLV and No. 5 BYU in the semifinals.
