FORT WORTH, Texas -- With today's release of the league slate by the Mountain West Conference, TCU's 2008 football schedule has been announced.
TCU will play 11 consecutive weeks, including two Thursday games, before an open date on Nov. 15. The Nov. 22 regular-season finale at home versus Air Force is on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
The Horned Frogs open the 2008 campaign on Aug. 30 at New Mexico. It will be the first time since 2003 that TCU begins its season with a conference game. The date in Albuquerque, kicking off the Frogs' fourth year in the Mountain West Conference, will be seen on VERSUS and is one of nine nationally televised games thus far for TCU. Two other games have TV pending.
The Frogs' 2008 home debut is Sept. 6 against Stephen F. Austin. Kickoff is 6 p.m. in Amon G. Carter Stadium.
TCU will again be home at 6 p.m. the following week (Sept. 13) as it hosts Stanford. The Frogs defeated the Cardinal, 38-36, in Palo Alto last year in the first-ever meeting between the teams. Stanford will be TCU's first Pac-10 home opponent since Arizona in 1999.
The Frogs hit the road the next two weeks for games at SMU (Sept. 20) and Oklahoma (Sept. 27), respectively. Kickoff times and television plans for those contests have not been announced yet.
TCU and SMU will meet in the State Farm DFW Duel - Battle for the Iron Skillet. The Frogs defeated the Mustangs, 21-7, last season and have won seven of the last eight meetings. TCU holds a 41-39-7 edge in the 87-game series.
The Frogs and Sooners will play for the second time in four years. TCU has won its last two games in Norman, defeating the Sooners 17-10 in 2005 and 20-7 in 1996. Both victories came in season openers.
The Frogs are 5-1 versus Big 12 opponents the last three seasons and 10-2 in their past 12 contests versus teams from BCS-automatic qualifying conferences.
Oklahoma will play at TCU in 2012. It will be the Sooners' first visit to Amon G. Carter Stadium since 1998.
Following the date at Oklahoma, TCU returns to Mountain West Conference action for its final seven games.
The Frogs host San Diego State on Oct. 4 before traveling to Fort Collins on Oct. 11 to face Colorado State.
TCU will be home for BYU on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in the first of two Thursday games. The Frogs and Cougars will be meeting on a Thursday for the third straight season. TCU and BYU have combined to win the last three Mountain West Conference championships.
Following an Oct. 25 home game with Wyoming, TCU heads to UNLV on Nov. 1.
The Frogs will play their final Thursday game of the campaign on Nov. 6 at Utah. It will be the fourth consecutive season, representing every year TCU has been in the Mountain West Conference, that the Frogs and Utes have played on a Thursday.
After the Nov. 15 open date, TCU closes the regular season on Nov. 22 with a home game versus Air Force.
