POST-GAME QUOTESBYU-TCU
Feb. 5, 2008
FORT WORTH--Daniel-Meyer Coliseum
TCU Head Coach Jeff Mittie
Opening Statement
"I thought it was a good, solid win over a good opponent. BYU and us came into this with our two seasons kind of mirroring each other. We've both played very tough non-conference schedules, with some success and some disappointments. They obviously came in playing very well, with a 14-point win over Wyoming. You're getting a team that felt very good about itself and it was a tough basketball game."
On keys to the game
"I thought the two keys for us were that we rebounded the ball better than we have in a long time. That gave us the opportunity to get some transition baskets. Secondly, we took care of (the ball) at a very high rate of speed with 13 turnovers and 14 assists, so we did some good things in there."
On his team's defense
"I thought we forced them into some things. I liked the way we guarded the 3-point line. We limited (BYU guard Mallary Gillespie-Carling's) touches, and while she got 11 points and did some good things, I think they would like for her to have some more touches than she got tonight, especially catching it in some areas. Our guards were all over her tonight, and I thought our other players made some good reads when she did get open."
TCU freshman forward Micah Garoutte
On her success Tuesday
"BYU has a really good inside game. I just wanted to attack them, maybe draw a foul and try and get them out of their rhythm. (I wanted to ) get the ball and go up into them as much as I could."
On the importance of the win
"I think it is a big boost. BYU beat Wyoming, and we knew they have good players. So we knew if we played hard, it would be a really good win for us."
TCU freshman guard Helena Sverrisdottir
On winning the rebounding battle
"Before the game, we talked about having to rebound against them. I thought about this game all day today. I told myself, `I am going to get some rebounds and allow the team to run.' So I just worked hard."
