
Rifle team captures fourth straight win

FORT WORTH, Texas- The TCU woman's rifle team won their third straight match on Saturday against the Air Force Falcons at home in Fort Worth. They set a season high aggregate score with 4,644 points. The Frogs also set a new school record for aggregate smallbore score with 2,311 points breaking the previous mark of 2,290 in 2006.
Emily Paper and Simone Riford led the Frogs in smallbore, both posting scores of 581 in the event. The score of 581 was a personal best for Paper as her and Riford claimed the top two spots in smallbore. Lauren Sullivan finished third with a score of 576 followed closely by her teammate, Erin Lorenzen, who fired a 573. Tanya Gorin rounded out the Frog finishers in eighth with a 561.
TCU claimed six of the top ten spots in air rifle to seal the victory. Lorenzen led the Frogs with a score of 586, finishing first in the event. Sullivan trailed by only one point with a score of 585 to claim a second place finish. Third and fourth place belonged to Riford and Paper, who both tallied scores of 581.
Two shooters for the Frogs set personal records in air rifle. Becca Upjohn set her personal record with a score of 573 while Bonnie Morgan set a personal-best with a 571. Both Upjohn and Morgan finished in the top ten in air rifle.
Overall, the Frogs claimed the top four aggregate scores of the match. Emily Paper took first place against the Falcons, with an 1,162 overall. Only three points separated the top four aggregate spots.
The team will use continue their momentum when they face UTEP on the road in El Paso, Texas on Feb. 9th, before returning home for the NRA sectional and NCAA qualifying match.
