TCU head coach Dan Abdalla once again sat down with GoFrogs.com this week and gave fans an inside look into some of the underclassmen this spring. This is the sixth installment of Coach Abdalla's weekly journal as the Horned Frogs open the spring season this month.
Sixth Installment
It was a good week last week. We are really excited about the level of kids we brought in. Our training has been going extremely well. We actually started our spring practices this week and the kids' work rate has been exceptional.
The freshmen have really started to step up a little bit. Jackie Torda and Cheryl Martin continue to set the standard. They are two workhorses and always go all out. Something else that has been fun to see with our freshmen is all the extra stuff they do.
Katie Taylor has been putting everything into it she can. She is just one of those kids. We drove by the field this past weekend and she was playing on her own and that is something that really stands out. Kelsey Walters has got me running three times a week and really been working hard from a fitness standpoint, which is awesome. Chelsea Cody is as solid as she has ever been and Julia Slater continues to work hard. They have become really close and have really started to push each other to become better.
Finally, you got Jenna Hayes and Kaylie Garcia who have been doing extra work with a pilates workout and that is fun. We are spoiled to have my wife who is the pilates instructor for the Dallas Mavericks.
Last week, we took on the volleyball team at the bowling alley and that was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, we dropped a heart breaker in the tenth frame, but it was great. We like to do a lot of team things here off the field and interact with other programs within the athletic department. It creates a real family atmosphere.
