POST-GAME QUOTESWyoming-TCU
Feb. 13, 2008
Fort Worth, Texas--Daniel-Meyer Coliseum
TCU Head Coach Jeff Mittie
Opening statement
"Wyoming gives you mismatch problems. I liked our attack early in this game. The last time we played them, we felt like we weren't very aggressive and we took some poor shots against them. This time I thought we had a better attack. We moved the ball better. We wanted to get the basketball inside against them with the dribble, and then get it back outside and move it again."
On TCU's defense
"I thought the shot clock was a factor on a lot of shots in the first half. Then I thought we got them hurried. We were able to get them a little bit off-balance, and that's where we got the turnovers. That was a big part of our run in the first half in transition."
On TCU's success in transition
"I think anytime you can get a freebie out there without their set defense, it's a good thing. It really takes the wind out of their sails, as well. We felt that they're going to hit some 3's against us, but it's what we do with their misses. If we rebound those misses, we're going to be able to run because those are long rebounds."
TCU senior guard Helen Roden
On her 13 first-half points
"I just did the easy part. My teammates had to penetrate, which was our focus for the game. All I had to do was relax and hit the shot. It was more of my teammates getting me the ball to hit the open shot."
On practice leading up to the Wyoming game
"We tried to practice from the 15 foot line, mainly penetrating from it, and I think we did a good job."
TCU senior guard Adrianne Ross
On how the offense is performing compared to previous years
"I really can't think back that far right now because I'm really focusing on this season. Like Coach Mittie said, we've made a tremendous transition from a month ago, when executing was frustrating. Now it's a sigh of relief because you know once we call a play, the majority of the time we will execute."
On the difference between tonight and TCU's loss in Laramie earlier this month
"We focused more on ourselves. Wyoming is a good team and you can't overlook anything they do, but what we needed to do was to focus on us. We really focused on penetrating and kicking, and making the extra pass. Coach Mittie told us we may get tired of hearing about penetrating and kicking by the end of this game, and he's right, but that's what we did and it worked."
Wyoming Head Coach Joe Legerski
Opening statement
"I thought TCU played well tonight. They came out as the aggressors. Their transition baskets were a big part of the game tonight. We needed to do a better job of transition defense."
On TCU's shooting
"When you take a look at the FG% it really shows how many easy points they were able to get. But also shows the aggressiveness and who was the aggressor, and that goes to TCU. That definitely set the tone in the first half and carried over into the second half."
On the difference between the teams' two games this season
"I think one of the biggest differences is where you are playing at. Home court advantage is huge in this league. And it is very difficult to find victories on the road.
"This was a tough game tonight. I knew it was going to be difficult to come down and play TCU. They are playing extremely well. They are deep and that will make our match-ups extremely difficult. I thought they shot the ball extremely well from three point range."
