COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU senior Cosmin Cotet was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while junior Macall Harkins earned MWC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Cotet went a combined 8-0 at the top singles and doubles positions to help lead TCU to four wins over the week, as the Horned Frogs remained unbeaten on the season.
Cotet, who is ranked No. 27 nationally, posted four straight-sets victories last week as the Iasi, Romania, native hasn't dropped a set in a match all season. Cotet recorded the only straight-sets win against the 42nd-ranked Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to put the Horned Frogs up 2-0 early in the match.
In doubles play, Cotet remained undefeated on the season with four wins playing with partners Kriegler Brink and Adrian Simon. Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Cotet and Brink clinched the crucial doubles point with a dominating 8-3 win over Novikov and Pavlov at the top position.
Macall Harkins won both singles and doubles matches to lead TCU in a loss to No. 25 Texas over the weekend. In her first action with the Purple and White, Harkins teamed with Anna Sydorska to topple the No. 25 Longhorn duo of Corovic and Milic.
Harkins, a native of Palos Verdes, Calif., posted one of TCU's two singles victories with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 win over Stephanie Davison at the No. 2 position.
The women's team will play host to No. 28 Texas A&M on Saturday at 12 p.m. and the men will host No. 31 Texas Tech on Sunday at 2 p.m.
