
Frogs Handle Wyoming in 3-0 Victory

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Horned Frog offense was on fire Thursday night as it claimed a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-18) victory over Wyoming to improve to 17-8 overall and 7-6 in league play. Kourtney Edwards and Christy Hudson led the offensive charge with 13 and 10 kills, respectively.The Frogs hit an impressive .351 in the match with 48 kills and just nine errors. Nirelle Hampton tallied 39 assists to go along with nine kills. A 52 dig night by TCU was led by 15 from Katelyn Blackwood and 14 from Lauren Otto. Megan Munce dropped in four of the Frogs' seven aces in the match.
Wyoming came out fired up in the first set as it took the early lead. The Frogs kept things close and eventually tied the set at 10-all on a slide from Hudson. Lauren Otto stepped behind the service line and helped TCU take a 17-10 lead. Hudson and Edwards dropped in a kill each, then teamed on a block to keep the rally going.
The Cowgirls rallied with a 3-0 run, but another big push by the Frogs, this time behind the serving of Katelyn Blackwood put the Frogs in complete control. Following an ace by Blackwood, Irene Hester came up with a huge solo block. Devon Kirk gave the Frogs set point and an attack error by Wyoming sealed the 25-16 set one victory.
A reversal in the second set saw the Frogs jump out to the early lead, only to see the Cowgirls battle back to tie the set at 11. Back-to-back kills from Hester and an ace from Megan Munce made it a 10-5 TCU game. Samantha Eley served the Cowgirls on a 5-0 run that tied the set. Sarah Joeckel ended the rally and put the Frogs up for good. She followed with back-to-back aces, forcing a Wyoming timeout.
Out of the break, the Frogs kept rolling. Nirelle Hampton blasted a cross court kill, followed by a shot from Otto to extend the lead to four, 15-11. The set worked its way to an 18-14 score and from there the Frogs took off. A kill from Edwards in the middle propelled the Frogs to a 7-2 run that closed out the 25-16 set two victory. Joeckel dropped in two kills along with a kill each from Edwards and Hudson.
A tighter battle in the third set greeted the Horned Frogs, but they persevered and eventually took control on a kill from Joeckel that gave them a 14-13 lead. Munce followed with three straight service aces to open up the set.
After a brief 3-0 run by the Cowgirls, Hampton put the Frogs back on track with a cross court kill. Otto kept things rolling behind a good serve from Hannah Fort. Three straight kills from Edwards locked up the 25-18 set three win.
The Frogs (18-8, 7-6 MWC) will play their final home match of the season Saturday afternoon against No. 13 Colorado State. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
