LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Jordan Calhoun became the first freshman in TCU women's soccer history on Tuesday to be named Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year at the pre-championship banquet.
Calhoun, who also earned first-team all-conference honors on Tuesday night, has posted 14 goals on the year, while dishing out two assists. The Norman, Okla., native, collected both accolades by netting goals in three of TCU's seven conference matches, including two against New Mexico on Oct. 5. Overall, the freshman has scorched opponents in 11 of TCU's 18 contests this fall, while currently being ranked in the top-25 in the NCAA in goals per contest.
TCU junior Lizzy Karoly and redshirt freshman Katie Taylor also picked up conference awards on Tuesday, earning second-team all-conference honors.
Karoly, who was an all-conference selection for the second-consecutive season, closed Mountain West Conference play netting the game-winner at San Diego State. Overall, the junior forward has recorded 10 goals, while assisting on six others in 2008. Karoly currently ranks in the top-3 in the conference in seven of the nine offensive categories for the season.
Taylor, a redshirt freshman defender, has been a key component on the Horned Frog backline this fall. During conference action, Taylor has recorded one goal and three assists. She has helped the Purple and White post a conference shutout against Utah, while dishing out five assists on the season.
No. 29 TCU will begin post-season action on Wednesday when the No. 3 seeded Horned Frogs take on No. 6 San Diego State in opening-round competition at the 2008 Mountain West Conference Tournament.
