
Volleyball Signs Two for 2009

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU volleyball head coach Prentice Lewis announced that the program has signed two prep stars to National Letter's of Intent. The duo of high school seniors hail from the state of Texas. They will be freshmen on the 2009 squad.The class features Kelli Stewart (OH, Magnolia) and Emily Kirby (MB/RS, Sherman).
"This is a great recruiting class," raved Lewis. "We have two very poised and talented players. We are looking forward to the contributions they will make to the volleyball program."
Another high school standout, Kirby, has lettered four times at Texoma Christian School. As a junior and senior, she earned first-team all-state accolades. In addition to being named all-state, she was a state all-tournament team member after guiding her squad to a semi-finalist finish as a senior. She was also tabbed as the District 4 MVP and first-team all-district. She led her team in blocks, kills and serving her senior year.
Following her sophomore campaign, she was tabbed as the TAPPS District Newcomer of the Year and was a first-team all-Texomaland member. As well as exceeding on the court, Kirby is a member of the National honor society.
Also a member of the Texas Advantage Volleyball club, she spent the 2007 season helping lead the squad to a fifth-place showing at the Junior Olympics. Prior to her time at TAV, she spent four years with the Dallas Force club.
"Emily has grown as a player tremendously this past year," said Lewis. "I am so looking forward to working with her this upcoming year. She brings much-needed height to our program."
Stewart is a four-year letter winner at Magnolia High School. She is a two-time first-team all-district honoree as well as earning special recognition all-state honors. As well as achieving on the court, Stewart is a three-time recipient of the academic all-district award. She has amassed over 500 kills during her senior campaign.
"Kelli is an extraordinary athlete who will add a strong attack to our offense," remarked Lewis. "Her competitive nature will be a huge attribute to our program."
