FORT WORTH, Texas - The following are quotes from TCU distance coach Shawn Winget and respective student-athletes that will represent TCU this weekend at the Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships.
Shawn Winget
"We are definitely excited to go into the conference meet. We are pretty healthy right now, which is good. We look for Festus to go in and hopefully finish within the top-3. On the girls side, we could finish anywhere from third to sixth, but we are going to have to have a great day to get in the top-5."
"Festus is a lot more mentally tough then he was last year. With this year's race being at sea level, he is a lot more comfortable and confident. He is definitely stronger and faster this year both mentally and physically. That will hopefully serve him well."
"Tanja is coming through 18 flat in practice, but we have to have her translate that into competition. She has worked her tail off and done everything right, we just need for her to be able to do what she does in practice during competition."
"Dani Selner's biggest thing is confidence and she has finally quit thinking about everything and just let her body do what it is supposed to do. Dani and Kelly Dawson are kind of neck-and-neck right now and that is a good combination because Kelly is trying to figure everything out and Dani is a good leader. They work well together."
"With cross country its all about improvement and we have done so much better then where we were at last year at this time. We are taking steps in the right direction and it's a long-term process, but we have made huge steps mentally. They truly believe that they can get this thing done now."
Festus Kigen
"My expectations are to do good and at least get to the podium. I know we are ready, it is just a matter of mental toughness and being able to compete competitively. We need to be in the top-5 as a team."
Chad Davis
"Well, we're all very excited. We have had a really good season of training and it's apparent that we all have our own personal goals in mind, as well as a common goal for the team. We're staying positive and really looking forward to Saturday. The only thing left to do is take care of business and we are all capable of doing so."
Jacob Womeldorf
"I expect us to be competitive this year and to go out with a purpose. We were embarrassed as a team last year, so we feel like we have something to prove this weekend. We also know we are a young team, so this will still be a learning process to help us build for the future. The Mountain West Conference is really tough, so we need to keep realistic expectations with a team as young as we are."
Ryan Dalrymple
"Going into the Mountain West Championships, I feel that everyone is a lot stronger and a lot more confident. We have been way more organized as far as training and overall mileage is concerned. I expect the race to be very competitive as usual, but I believe we will definitely see some personal records."
Tanja Ivandic
"For the team, we need to believe in ourselves and trust our training because right now we are ready. We are stronger then ever and are capable of competing during the entire race. I expect all of us to leave it all on the line and reach our team goal."
Personally, I expect myself to take a chance and compete. I need to not to let to many jerseys get in front of me and come out in the top-10. Hopefully, I'll get a personal-best as well."
Shannon Andrew
"As a team we expect to be in the top-4, we just need to run how we are capable of running and compete hard. No one really expects anything from our team this year and we want to prove and show how much work we've put in over the season. It's time for all the long hours to pay off. I just need to do my part and run what I am capable of running."
