POST-GAME QUOTESTCU-San Diego State
Jan. 9, 2008
Fort Worth, Texas--Daniel-Meyer Coliseum
TCU Head Coach Jeff Mittie
Opening Statement
"I thought it was a good opening conference win. San Diego State has a good basketball team. I thought we did some good things. Obviously the early start was good. I wasn't really pleased with how we ended the half. I thought we had too many fouls and, offensively, we went a long time without scoring. I felt we got everything early in transition, early in the push, and we didn't have a consistent attack. We were standing around a little but, but coming out of the half I was really pleased with the corrections the players made with what we talked about. I think that's going to be a real key with this basketball team, how it handles adversity and do it comes out of it and learn from the things that happened to it in the first half. Tonight we did that."
On pace of the game
"That pace is quick. It was a track meet early. Early I thought it was as fast of a game as I've seen all year. We had players getting fatigued on our end as well, but we were able to keep them fresh. I thought the play of our bench was critical. It's one thing to substitute and lose something, but there were times when we subbed and gained something. I thought Danielle Nunn played well. Helen Roden played well. I think Jenna Lohse gave us something off the bench, Micah [Garoutte] gave us minutes and the bench played really well."
On the role of the bench
"I don't get really concerned with who starts, because we've started different lineups all year. Danielle Nunn has started and Emily Carter has started, so it doesn't really matter because I think we have a lot of starters on this team. I'm looking for finishers. I need them fighting to get out there, and I think right now this group is playing really hard."
Sophomore guard Danielle Nunn
On players enjoying the pace of the game
"I've noticed that whenever we share the ball and play as a team that everybody gets going. Whether it's somebody getting a steal, finishing strong, getting a hand on a rebound and things like that, we play better as a team."
On if it was one of the team's all around better games
"I think it's one of them. We've had a couple of them. Oklahoma State started us off, and from there we've built as a team. It's really shown in all of our (recent) games."
