FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU football standout Brian Bonner will play in the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Game on Feb. 2 at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas.
The game will be nationally televised on CSTV. Former Horned Frog safety Eric Buchanan played in last year's contest.
Bonner was a two-time first-team All-Mountain West Conference selection as a return specialist. He became only the second player in MWC history to be a first-team return specialist in more than one season. Bonner also earned All-MWC accolades at safety in 2006.
Bonner had 535 punt return yards in 2007, falling just 15 yards shy of breaking TCU's single-season record of 549 held by Heisman Trophy winner Davey O'Brien in 1937.
In the Frogs' 20-13 Texas Bowl win over Houston, Bonner had 65 punt return yards on three attempts. He tied Jason Phillips for the TCU lead with 10 tackles while also recovering a fourth quarter on-side kick.
For the season, Bonner placed third on TCU with a career-best 78 stops. His tackle total increased each year with the Frogs. The Beeville, Texas, native started 20 of his last 21 games.
A December 2007 graduate of TCU, Bonner is the third Frog selected to play in a college All-Star game this season. Fellow safety David Roach is in the Jan. 12 Hula Bowl, while defensive end Chase Ortiz will play in the Jan. 19 East-West Shrine Game.
