
TCU honors weekly athlete award recipients

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Men's track and field student-athlete Festus Kigen and women's rifle member Simone Riford are TCU's Male and Female Athletes of the Week. The Gulliver's Travel Road Warrior of the Week award has been given to Jessica Clarke of women's track and field.Kigen placed fourth overall in the mile run with a time of 4:08.04 in TCU's second meet of the year at the Texas Tech Invitational. This was his first career run in the mile during the indoor season. The sophomore from Eldoret, Kenya, now ranks second in the Mountain West Conference for the mile run.
Riford, a sophomore from Kaneohe, Hawaii, finished first overall with an aggregate score of 1,166 as she helped the TCU rifle team claim its first-ever victory over Nebraska as well as post a team-high score on the season. Riford came in fourth in smallbore with a score of 576 and earned a victory in air rifle, matching a personal-best score of 590.
Clarke won the 200 meters at the Texas Tech Invitational with a season-best time of 24.08. The junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., also placed third in the 55 meters with a time of 7.07. Clarke's 200-meter time at the Texas Tech Invitational is currently the second-best time in the Mountain West Conference behind teammate Virgil Hodge. She also is ranked second in the MWC in the 60 meters with a time of 7.57 at the season-opening Arkansas Invitational.
