FORT WORTH, Texas - Due to the new NCAA Change of Season Plan rules, the current TCU Horned Frog baseball team is not permitted to play the Alumni Team. However, that will not deter either the Alumni Team or the 2008 Horned Frogs from having an active day on Saturday, February 2. The weekend festivities commence on Friday night at the fifth annual First Pitch Banquet.
"It's disappointing that the new rules don't allow us to play the alumni team," remarked Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle. "However, we really need a strong contingent of alumni to participate in all of the events of the day. I really encourage all TCU fans to stop by Lupton Stadium on Saturday afternoon and get a glimpse of many of the former great TCU players and a preview of the current squad."
All former players are asked to report to Lupton Stadium by 10:30am on Saturday. The alumni team will take batting practice from 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. At noon, there will be a Home Run Derby competition in which awards will be given to winners in the following categories: Classes in the 1980s and earlier, classes from the 1990s and classes from the 2000s. An overall winner will be announced as well with points being earned in a variety of ways. Rules will be announced at the stadium prior to the competition.
At approximately 1 p.m., the alumni will be introduced and the alumni vs. alumni game will take place. The length and time of the game is to be determined. After the alumni game, the 2008 TCU Baseball team will take batting practice and then play a Purple vs. White intrasquad game.
Former TCU coaches, Lance Brown and Frank Windegger, will be in attendance to coach the alumni squads. Other prominent alumni that have committed to participate in the weekend events include Lance Broadway, Jake Arrieta, Shawn Ferguson, Andrew Walker, Stuart Musslewhite, Keith Conlon, Austin Adams, Chad Huffman, Steven Trout, German Duran, Donald Furrow, Brad Firestone, Flint Wallace and Ryan Pack.
Admission to all of the events is free.
