FORT WORTH, Texas - Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle announced the addition of junior, right-handed pitcher, Matt Coburn to the 2008 squad. Coburn transferred to TCU at the beginning of the spring semester from San Jacinto Junior College in Houston, TX.
"We are excited to have Matt at TCU," remarked Schlossnagle. "He gives us a quality relieft pitcher that will compete with the other guys for a role in the bullpen. Hopefully, his experience in that type of role will benefit our team."
The twice-drafted Coburn joins the squad after two successful seasons at San Jacinto. As a sophomore in 2007, Coburn compiled a 2-2 record and six saves with a miniscule 1.64 ERA in 15 innings pitched. The right-hander tossed 38 1/3 innings and struck out 37. His outstanding work on the mound earned him a selection to the JUCO All-Star game.
As a freshman, Coburn was 3-1 with a 3.64 and three saves. Following his successful season Coburn was selected in the 47th round of the 2006 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Coming out of Humble, Texas and Humble High School, Coburn was drafted for the first time in the 27th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Coburn will be a junior on the squad this season.
