TCU head coach Dan Abdalla once again sat down with GoFrogs.com to give fans an inside look on Sara Schneider and Caroline Starns during the spring season.
This is the third installment of Coach Abdalla's weekly journal as the Horned Frogs will open the spring season in February.
Third Installment
This past weekend I was all over the place. Overall, our staff traveled to Houston, Phoenix and Las Vegas in a three-day span. It was a lot of fun. Last week we started doing some fitness testing and it looked like our girls did some very good things over the break. I really feel this next week we will start to look at the roles Sara Schneider and Caroline Starns take during the off-season. They were two kids that signed before I got here and over the last couple of years have really matured both on and off the field. Both of those girls have great qualities that you want in a student-athlete.
Sara Schneider is a kid that every year has made significant improvements, not only technically, but also physiologically. Really, last year she was one of the kids we counted and relied upon all season. She has obviously been extremely unselfish in having to play in a position out of her comfort level, but I have been really impressed with her leadership on and off the field. I am looking forward to watching her expand her role and put more demands and higher expectations on the team.
Caroline Starns really has a passion for playing this game. She has always put the team first and we have asked her to play a number of spots. In her three years of playing here, she has shown that confidence that can put the fear in other player's eyes. She obviously is the strongest at the outside mid position, but because of injuries last year we had to put her in the back a little bit. She never once complained. She is such a fun loving, great kid and always has a smile on her face. She really has matured quite a bit and is someone on our team that the girls really look up to. We really put a lot of stuff on her because the girls listen to what she has to say.
Those two this spring are going to be fun to watch and I am really looking forward to seeing them expand their roles, while continuing to have the big impact they have had on our program.
