
Broadway earns September call-up with White Sox

FORT WORTH, Texas - After just two and a half seasons in minor league baseball, former Horned Frog Lance Broadway earned a promotion to the big leagues when he was called up on Monday. Broadway was the 2005 first-round pick of the Chicago White Sox. He has spent the entire 2007 season with the White Sox's Triple-A affliate, Charlotte. Broadway joined the team in Detroit on Monday.
He spent his entire second full season in pro ball in Charlotte. At the time of his call-up, Broadway was 8-9 with a 4.65 ERA in 26 starts. In 155 innings pitched, the right-hander struck out 108. In 2006, he split the season between Double-A Birmingham and Charlotte. He was a combined 8-8 in 26 starts, while tallying 117 strikeouts and walking just 41 batters in 160 1/3 innings pitched.
In three combined seasons in the minors, Broadway is 17-20 with a 3.83 ERA in 370 1/3 innings pitched. He has racked up 283 strikeouts.
While at TCU, the right-hander put together one of the most impressive seasons in Horned Frog history. The Conference USA Male Athlete of the Year became the highest draft pick in TCU baseball history when he was selected with the 15th overall pick. Broadway put together a streak of 36 1/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run during the 2005 campaign and finished the season allowing just two earned runs in his last 43 2/3 innings pitched. His 1.62 ERA was a league-best in Conference USA. The Grand Prairie, Texas native also fanned a league-best and school record 151 batters this season.
He was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week four times and earned Pro-Line Cap National Player of the Week honors twice. Along with his season honors, the righty was a finalist for all three major Player of the Year Awards and was named the ABCA District VII Player of the Year.
