Horned Frogs have strong showing at Cowboy Jamboree

STILLWATER, Okla. - The TCU women's and men's cross country teams finished 13th and 15th, respectively, in a competitive field at the Cowboy Jamboree held at the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course on Saturday.
Sophomore Festus Kigen paced both the men and women for TCU with a 10th-place finish in the men's 8K. Kigen, who was named Mountain West Conference Athlete of the Week last week, ran the course in 24:34, while senior Matt Manly again had a solid outing as he crossed the finish line in 26:06 to place 40th overall out of 108 competitors.
"Overall, I thought Festus and Matt ran well against a solid group of runners on the men's side, while the women had a good pack for most of the race and will look to continue to improve at the Chile Pepper," said distance coach Shawn Winget.
Host school Oklahoma State won the men's title with 69 points, while Abilene Christian placed second. Overall, 17 total squads competed on the men's side in Stillwater on Saturday.
Leading the pack for the Horned Frog women, who finished with 278 total points, was freshman Tanja Ivandic, who finished 31st in the women's 5K race with a time of 19:23. Dani Selner, a sophomore from Houston, followed by placing 36th overall with a time of 19:27. Pacing the next pack of Horned Frogs was Ashley Young, who finished 60th in a time of 19:59. Young was followed by Ashley Millerick (20:06) and Shannon Andrew (20:36), who both placed in the top-100 out of 154 runners, respectively.
Missouri State won the women's team title with 58 points. Tulsa (Okla.) followed with a runner-up performance on Saturday. Overall, 18 total teams competed on the women's side.
The Horned Frogs will return to action on Oct. 13 at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
