GoFrogs.com recently sat down with cross country runner Matt Manly as he prepares for his senior season with the men's cross country program.
In 2006, Manly, a native of Leander, Texas, earned a top-10 finish at the North Texas Invitational by placing ninth overall. He also opened the season crossing the finish line in sixth-place at the Bear Relays. On the track, Manly closed out the year finishing eighth in the 10000 meters at the MWC Outdoor Championships.
GoFrogs.com: What did you work on this summer to make yourself a better runner?
Matt Manly: I had to make myself a better runner because I was injured with my knee for a good bit of the summer. I focused on maintaining my strength through gradually building back my running paces.
GF: With this being your last season how excited are you for this upcoming season?
MM: I am looking forward to the opportunity to represent the team as a leader and obtaining the goals that I have set for myself.
GF: How has your summer gone so far?
MM: The majority of my summer has been spent cross training and lifting weights in order to maintain my strength until I can get back to running.
GF: What would you like to accomplish this upcoming season as a runner?
MM: I would really like to get back to form and come back even stronger.
GF: What's the last movie you saw?
MM: The last movie I saw was Live Free or Die Hard.
GF: What is your favorite thing to do off the field?
MM: I like to hangout with friends and attend football, basketball and baseball games.
GF: If you could play any other collegiate sport, what would it be?
MM: If I could play any other collegiate sport it would definitely have to be football or basketball. I would probably side with basketball though since I played it growing up.
GF: What would you like to do after college?
MM: After college I would like to possibly pursue a career in the military, but I plan on really taking the opportunity to explore my career options on campus this year.
