FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU head coach Neil Dougherty has announced the Horned Frogs' 2007-08 basketball schedule, a slate that features nine non-conference games against in-state foes. Highlighting the schedule is a visit to Austin to renew an old rivalry with the Texas Longhorns. Texas is one of three Big 12 teams on the docket, joining Texas Tech and Oklahoma.
TCU will open the campaign on Saturday, Nov. 10 against Angelo State at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The Horned Frogs then play the first game of an in-season home-and-home series with Rice on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The Frogs host Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Nov. 17) and Grambling State (Nov. 21) to complete their season-opening four-game home stand.
The first road test of the year is a visit to Lubbock to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Wednesday, Nov. 28. The Frogs will face their second straight Big 12 opponent when the Oklahoma Sooners visit DMC Sunday, Dec. 2.
The Frogs' longest rivalry game returns to Dallas this year when TCU plays SMU on Wednesday, Dec. 5. It is the 183rd all-time meeting between the two schools.
Four straight opponents: Texas Southern (Dec. 8), Texas-Arlington (Dec. 17), Prairie View A&M (Dec. 22) and Jackson State (Dec. 27) round out the non-conference home slate, as nine of TCU's first 11 games are at DMC. TCU will have a total of 17 games in Fort Worth during the 2007-08 campaign.
On Saturday, Dec. 29, TCU will return the game versus the Rice Owls to close out the calendar year. TCU's final non-league tilt is set for Jan. 2 at Texas. The two teams have not met since the breakup of the Southwest Conference in 1996.
Due to the heavy scheduling of in-state schools, the Horned Frogs do not travel out of the state until Jan. 5, the Mountain West Conference opener at San Diego State. TCU's MWC home opener is Jan. 12 against Wyoming.
TCU's third year in the MWC wraps up at home on Saturday, Mar. 8 against defending regular-season conference champion BYU. The MWC Championships will be held Mar. 12-15 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
In all, TCU will play seven games against teams that reached the 2007 NCAA Tournament, as the Frogs will play BYU and UNLV twice, as well as single games versus Texas, Texas Tech and Jackson State. Two games each against lastt year's National Invitation Tournament participants Air Force and San Diego State are also on tap.
