Frogs open with 77-66 win in Costa Rica

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica - The TCU Horned Frogs got off to a good start on their Central America excursion, as TCU defeated Costa Rican professional team Saprissa by a 77-66 score on Saturday night at the National Gymnasium. The Frogs opened up with an 8-0 lead and never trailed in the contest.
The energetic Frog defense forced several early turnovers and did not allow a point until the 5:40 mark of the first quarter. Playing according to international rules, the game consisted of four 10-minute periods.
TCU led by a 33-25 count at halftime after a 9-0 Saprissa run that closed the stanza tightened up a 17-point game.
Brent Hackett, sporting a new number, 12, drained three first-half 3-pointers and led all scorers with 13 points in the first two quarters. The senior from Fort Worth finished with a game-high 21.
Fellow senior Neiman Owens also had a big scoring night, as he netted 15 points, 10 in the second half. He also chipped in with three assists and three steals. The final Frog in double figures was Kevin Langford (10).
After flying to San Andres Island in the morning, TCU will return to the hardwood Sunday evening against the San Andres Suns. It will be the first of three games for the Frogs on the Colombian island.
