GoFrogs.com recently caught up with sophomore midfielder Michelle Nguyen. A native of Richardson, Texas, Nguyen recently participated at the United States Amateur Soccer Association (USASA) national camp. The camp was held at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
In 2006, Nguyen, who's brother Lee made his debut for the United States men's national soccer team last month, was selected to Soccer Buzz Magazine's All-Freshman Central Regional Team after finishing second on the team with nine points and second in the Mountain West Conference with 62 shots.
GoFrogs.com: What was it like to compete at the USASA national camp?
Michelle Nguyen: It was quite the experience for me to compete at the USASA national camp. It was fun playing at a high level and meeting new people.
GF: Did your brother or Head Coach Dan Abdalla give you any advice before you left for camp?
MN: They both pretty much said the same thing. Relax, have fun and play like I know how.
GF: What was the competition like at camp?
MN: The competition was stiff. I was competing against very good players from all over the U.S.
GF: What does it mean to you to be the second consecutive TCU player selected to the national camp?
MN: I feel that it was a great honor to be the second TCU player chosen to go to the camp.
GF: What did you learn while at the camp?
MN: The camp taught me to play faster and quicker. I feel that it has improved my game and helped prepare me for the upcoming season.
GF: What was your favorite part of the national camp?
MN: My favorite part was playing with a lot of great players and making new friends. It was such a great learning experience. The fields that we played on were absolutely flawless.
GF: How can competing at this camp help you this upcoming season?
MN: Competing at this camp showed me how to play and compete at a higher level. This will help me to play quicker and smarter in the upcoming season
GF: What do you need to work on this summer to make yourself a better soccer player?
MN: I feel that there's always room for improvement. So if I could improve every aspect of my game, I think that would really help me.
