
Munch-Soegaard advances to quarterfinals of USTA event

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Upcoming sophomore women's tennis player Nina Munch-Soegaard advanced to the quarterfinals in singles play of the Fifth Third Classic of Evansville on Thursday, while also moving on to the semifinals in doubles with former Horned Frog standout Helena Besovic. The tournament is a 10k Challenger event being held in Evansville, Ind.
Munch-Soegaard knocked off No. 3 seeded Nicole Kriz (AUS) 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the second round to advance to the quarterfinals. The Amarillo, Texas, native defeated Marilyn Baker (USA) 6-3, 6-2 in first round action on Wednesday. Munch-Soegaard will face Maria-Fernanda Alvarez-Teran (BOL) in the singles quarterfinals.
Munch-Soegaard also competed in the doubles portion of the tournament with Helena Besovic, where the duo won by default over the top-seeded pair of Leanne Baker and Nicole Kriz to advance to the semifinals. The duo defeated Phoebe Di Leo and Cammie Gray 6-2, 6-0 in the first round. Munch-Soegaard and Besovic have already claimed two pro circuit doubles titles this summer coming in El Paso, Texas, and Houston, Texas.
