FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU women's tennis player Macall Harkins has been invited to a wild card event held at the USTA training center in Carson, Calif., that will begin on July 29. Harkins is one of eight players that will attempt to receive a wild card into the East West Bank Classic in Los Angeles, Calif.
The eight participants will split up into two groups in a round robin format that will decide who advances to the qualifying draw of the tier II WTA event. Also joining Harkins in the field will be collegiate standouts Megan Falcon, Natalie Frazier and Jenna Long, who all finished in the top 10 in the final Fila/ITA collegiate tennis ranking last season.
Harkins, a native of Palos Verdes, Calif., has had an impressive summer, recording a 13-4 singles record in four USTA Pro Circuit events. Harkins was unable to play during the 2007 season due to transfer rules after ending the 2006 slate ranked No. 71 while playing the top singles position at the University of Illinois.
