NEW YORK CITY -- Former TCU safety Marvin White and offensive tackle Herb Taylor were drafted in the fourth and sixth rounds, respectively, of the 2007 National Football League draft.White, taken by the Cincinnati Bengals, was the 15th pick in the fourth round and the 114th overall. The Kansas City Chiefs made Taylor the 22nd pick in the sixth round and 196th overall.
White and Taylor give TCU 16 players drafted by NFL teams in the six-year head coaching tenure of Gary Patterson.
White was named TCU's Defensive Most Valuable Player in the 2006 season as he keyed a Frog defensive unit which ranked second nationally in run defense and total defense while placing third in scoring defense. TCU allowed just nine touchdown passes.
A first-team All-MWC selection, White topped the Frogs with 86 tackles and four interceptions. He was the MWC Defensive Player of the Week after victories over Baylor and Texas Tech. He totaled a career-best 14 tackles in the season-opening 17-7 win over the Bears while adding eight stops and three pass break-ups in the 12-3 victory against the Red Raiders. White forced two fumbles in a win at New Mexico.
White, a native of Port Barre, La., came to the Frogs after earning All-America honors at Kilgore Junior College. He was a second-team All-MWC choice in 2005 as he tied for third on TCU with 67 tackles while adding three picks. In his first game as a Frog, White recorded seven tackles, including one for a loss, in a 17-10 win at Oklahoma.
Over the last two seasons, White topped TCU with 153 total tackles and seven interceptions.
A native of Houston, Taylor started all 49 games over the last four seasons for the Frogs. He was a first-team All-Mountain West Conference selection in 2005 and 2006. Taylor played right tackle his first three years before moving to left tackle in 2006.
Taylor helped anchor a TCU offensive line last season that allowed just 15 sacks, the fewest in the MWC and tied for sixth-lowest in the country. He was instrumental in TCU ranking ninth nationally in rushing (194.6 yards per game) and 17th in total offense (408.5 yards per game). The Frogs averaged at least 400 yards per game in all four of Taylor's seasons.
Taylor appeared on watch lists for the 2006 Lombardi Trophy and Outland Trophy. He was on the 2003 Conference USA All-Freshman Team and was an honorable-mention Freshman All-American.
