FORT WORTH, Texas - After posting 20 wins for the sixth time in the last seven seasons and tying for second in the Mountain West Conference, the TCU women's basketball team was awarded for its successful 2006-07 season on Monday, as the Lady Frogs earned their seventh straight bid to the NCAA Tournament.
TCU (21-10, 11-5 MWC) earned an at-large berth and was selected as the No. 10 seed in the Dayton Regional. The Lady Frogs will play seventh-seeded Ole Miss on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN2 at the Hartford Civic Center (16,500) in Hartford, Conn.
Only 12 teams boast the distinction of making the NCAA Championship field each of the past seven years. In addition to TCU, Connecticut, Duke, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Old Dominion, Purdue, Stanford, Tennessee and Vanderbilt have accomplished the feat.
The NCAA Tournament bid is the seventh all-time for TCU, who has advanced to the second round of the tournament in five of the previous six trips to the Big Dance. TCU advanced to the second round in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006.
TCU did not learn its fate until the 30th of 32 pairings was announced. The Dayton Regional was the last region revealed and the No.7-10 pairing was the second-to-last pairing announced.
Last season, TCU was a No. 11 seed in the NCAA Tournament and defeated sixth-seeded Texas A&M (69-65) in the first round before falling to No. 3 Rutgers (82-48) in the second round.
TCU is 0-2 all-time against Ole Miss (21-10), who received an at-large bid out of the Southeastern Conference. The two programs haven't met since consecutive meetings in 1993 and 1994.
The winner of the TCU-Ole Miss game will face the winner of the second-seeded Maryland and 15th-seeded Harvard game, which will be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of TCU's game. The top seed in the Dayton Regional is Tennessee (28-3).
All 63 games of the 2007 championship will be televised live on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. ESPN will offer whiparound-style coverage of the first- and second-round games to most of the nation with regionalized/protected coverage in the home markets of the competing teams.
