FORT WORTH, Texas - Just one-half game out of first place in the Mountain West Conference with four games to go, the TCU women's basketball team will look to move into first place, as it concludes a three-game homestand on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Wyoming.
The Lady Frogs (19-7, 9-3 MWC) will put their school-record 19-game home winning streak on the line as they look to avenge a 66-51 loss at Wyoming (16-8, 7-5 MWC) on Jan. 20.
TCU has won four straight games and is just one-half game behind conference-leader BYU, while Wyoming has fallen from second to fifth in the league having lost two straight games and three of its last four. BYU and TCU both have three losses in conference play after the Cougars lost at UNLV on Wednesday.
During TCU's four-game winning streak, the Lady Frogs have been winning by an average of 23.25 points per game and have scored at least 74 points in each game.
TCU leads the all-time series 5-4 and is 2-1 in Fort Worth against the Cowgirls. Wyoming hasn't won in Fort Worth since the series opener on Jan. 5, 1992 (69-38).
In all, TCU is winning by 31.16 points in six conference home games and 21.57 points in all 14 home games.
Thursday's game can be heard on 88.7 KTCU and www.gofrogs.com with Jeff Williams (play-by-play) and Marcy Girton (analyst) calling the action. Free video streaming and live stats of the game are also available on www.gofrogs.com.
TCU is coming off a 24-point victory (74-50) over Utah at home on Feb. 18, while Wyoming fell at San Diego State on Feb. 18, 55-47.
Following Thursday's game, the Lady Frogs will begin a two-game road trip at New Mexico on Sunday. The game will be televised nationally on CSTV at 4 p.m. CT.
Also at Thursday's game, the first 50 fans will receive a box of Girl Scout Cookies in honor of Girl Scout Night. And members of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) will be passing out informational bookmarks.
Tickets can be purchased before the game and at the gate. Single-game tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth. Students get into the games for free by presenting a valid student ID. SCOUTING WYOMING
Wyoming is 16-10 overall and 7-5 in the Mountain West Conference. The Cowgirls have lost two straight games and three of their last four. Thursday's game will be Wyoming's second straight road game after falling at San Diego State on Sunday, 55-47. Prior to losing two straight, Wyoming had won six of seven games.
Offensively, the Cowgirls have been struggling in their last five games and have only cracked 60 points one time. In two of their three losses during the span, they scored 43 and 47 points, respectively.
Despite their recent scoring struggles, the Cowgirls still rank third in the league in scoring with an average of 65.3. Wyoming is also second in the league in scoring defense (56.2) and first in free-throw percentage (76.8). They have also made 30 more three-pointers than any team in the league.
Wyoming is led by Hanna Zavecz and Justyna Podziemska, who both average 13.7 points. Podziemska did not play in the meeting earlier this season due to an ankle injury.
Wyoming is coached by Joe Legerski, who is in his fourth season as head coach at Wyoming and is 64-47 overall.
NO SHOT FOR YOU
TCU's defense has risen to the occasion in each of the last two games by holding consecutive opponents to season lows in field goals attempted. Against Air Force on Feb. 10, the Lady Frogs limited the Falcons to just 44 shots, while forcing a season-high 29 turnovers. Against Utah, the Lady Frogs limited the Utes to just 41 shots, while forcing 26 turnovers.
TOEING THE LINE
Against Utah on Feb. 18, the Lady Frogs matched a school record by making 94.7 of their free-throw attempts by finishing 18-of-19 from the charity stripe. TCU's line matched its performance against SMU on Jan. 5, 1991, when the Lady Frogs also made 18-of-19 free throws.
ROSS HEATS UP
February is turning into Adrianne Ross' best month of the season. This month Ross is averaging 19.2 points, five steals and 2.8 assists. She has scored at least 20 points in three games and set a school record with 10 steals at UNLV on Feb. 3.
