Lady Frogs face Utah in critical home game

FORT WORTH, Texas - With just five games remaining in the regular season and TCU just one game behind first-place BYU in the Mountain West Conference, the Lady Frogs will host Utah on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in a battle between two teams that are bidding for the MWC regular season title.
This weekend will begin a critical stretch in league play, as both -/RV TCU (18-7, 8-3 MWC) and Utah (16-9, 9-3 MWC) are among five teams that are all within two games of first place in the conference. The Utes currently are a half game up on the Lady Frogs.
Having won a school-record 18 straight home games, the Lady Frogs enter Sunday's contest on a three-game winning streak and are looking to knot the season series with the Utes after falling 72-61 in Salt Lake City on Jan. 18.
TCU has defeated its last three opponents by an average of 23.0 points and are defeating teams at home by an average of 21.38 points in 13 games. Utah enters the game having won two straight games over Colorado State and UNLV after dropping three straight games. The Utes had been in first place in the conference for most of the season until suffering 71-66 loss at San Diego State on Feb. 3.
Utah leads the all-time series 4-3, but TCU is 2-1 against the Utes in Fort Worth. Prior to losing at Utah earlier this season, TCU had won two straight in the series.

BYU currently leads the league, but the Cougars own just a half-game lead on Utah. TCU is one game out of first, while New Mexico and Wyoming are just two games back.
Following Sunday's game, the Lady Frogs will host Wyoming on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.
Scouting Utah
Utah is 16-9 overall and 9-3 in the Mountain West Conference. The Utes have won two straight games. Sunday's game will be Utah's first on the road since Feb. 3 after having three straight home games.
Utah ranks in the middle of the pack in both scoring offense (62.1) and scoring defense (57.6).
Pacing the Utes is guard Morgan Warburton who ranks second in the league in scoring (16.4).
Utah is coached by Elaine Elliott, who is in her 24th season as head coach at Utah. She is 506-202.
Lights Out
During TCU's three-game winning streak the Lady Frogs have been shooting the lights out. In the last five halves, TCU has shot the best that it has all year long. Following the first half at UNLV where the Lady Frogs shot just 25.9 percent (7-of-27), the Lady Frogs have shot better than 50 percent in four of the last five halves.
TCU shot a season-best 57.9 percent from the floor at Colorado State and 51.7 percent against Air Force. In the second half at UNLV the Lady Frogs shot 58.6 percent.
The only half TCU dipped below 50 percent was when they shot 45.2 percent in the first half against Air Force. TCU's best shooting half was 63.0 percent in the first half at Colorado State.
In a Zone
Spanning from the end of the UNLV game through the Colorado State game and into the first half of the Air Force game, Ashley Davis made 16 consecutive field-goal attempts, including 10 straight three-point tries. Davis made her final five shots at UNLV on Feb. 3, including three three-pointers. The San Antonio, Texas, native then made all seven of her shots, including six threes at Colorado State on Feb. 7. In the following game against Air Force (Feb. 10), Davis made the first four shots she took, including one three.
Winning with Style
TCU may be 13-0 at home this season, but the most impressive stat may be the fact that the Lady Frogs just aren't winning at home - they are winning with ease. In five conference home games, TCU is winning by an average of 32.6 points and in all 13 games, TCU is winning by 21.38 points. In fact, only one home game has been decided by fewer than 11 points this season and that was a 71-67 win over UTA on Dec. 10.
TCU has outscored opponents 1,033-755 at home and has won by at least 22 points in each of the last seven home games.
The Series
Utah leads the all-time series 4-3, but hasn't won in Fort Worth since Feb. 15, 1997. Utah won the meeting 72-61 on Jan. 18, 2007 Salt Lake City. TCU is 2-1 all-time against the Utes at home.
