POST-GAME QUOTESFresno State-TCU
Nov. 28, 2007
Fort Worth, Texas--Daniel-Meyer Coliseum
Head Coach Jeff Mittie
Opening Statement:
"I thought it was good to get back on the winning track. We knew coming in that Fresno would cause some problems with the press, that they would make the game helter skelter and it wouldn't be a pretty game. We knew that it was going to have a lot of bumps and a lot of traps, but we felt like we were going to have a lot of opportunities to score if we stayed fundamental in the backcourt to get it into the frontcourt. I thought our team did that for the most part. There were moments of sloppiness that we have to correct, but all-in-all I thought it was a pretty solid effort."
On his team's shot selection
"We had a lot of layups and run outs, but we are still not where we need to be. Our posts struggled tonight. They really had trouble finishing in there tonight, with plenty of opportunities. But I thought they were working hard in there. Jenna (Lohse) had four offensive rebounds, (Michaela Younger) had three and Micah had two. We're going to need more production out of that, but I thought (Danielle) Nunn was strong into the rim. I thought she had some good reads. I though Lori Butler-Rayford and Adrianne Ross all had some good reads. When I look back at the shot chart of that group I thought there was a lot better offense there. I though Moneka Knight did a good job of running the show tonight."
On the defensive effort
"I loved the start of the game tonight. We talk about if we could stop the penetration and keep them in front that they would have trouble. I think four of their first possessions they traveled because our players really did a good job of getting in front of them and staying in front of them. So I thought from a defensive standpoint that we did a much better job tonight."
Sophomore guard Danielle Nunn
On the importance of the win
A lot of pressure is relieved. We know that if we just got out there and played that everything would come that we worked on in practice. We worked on a lot of penetration yesterday in practice, so we worked on the off-side giving help to the ball and just staying heads up on them and playing defense."
