FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU head football coach Gary Patterson held his weekly news conference Tuesday in the John Justin Athletic Center.
The Horned Frogs will make their final home appearance of the 2007 campaign when they host UNLV Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
Included below are excerpts from Patterson's comments to the media.
Opening Statement ...
"It's a two-game season and we have to win two to get to a bowl game. It starts this week with UNLV, and I don't know if you can make it any more matter of fact than that."
On UNLV ...
"You just need to look offensively at how many points they've scored these last few games to see how athletic they are. They have been able to move the ball on everyone and probably played BYU the best out of anyone in the conference. Both of their quarterbacks are very athletic. They can run around and make plays with their feet."
On UNLV standout running back Frank Summers ...
"He is a good football player and definitely one of the best running backs in the league. You have to tackle him low because he is so big."
On needing one more win to become bowl eligible ...
"I haven't really thought about it. We need to think about beating UNLV instead of worrying about becoming bowl eligible. I believe everything happens for a reason. If we are meant to get to that point, we need to take care of our own business."
On TCU's senior class ...
"This group of seniors and every group are different. This group has had a great personality about themselves, and I really want to see them go out with two wins. Our freshmen and sophomores have to decide if they want to get five bowl rings and that starts right now."
On the advantage of going to a bowl game ...
"The advantage is being in a situation where you can help teach your younger kids and keep practicing instead of putting the pads up. I believe that teams who go to bowl games have an advantage over teams that don't."
On TCU's offense against BYU ...
"We played hard all game. When it's all said and done, we need to get touchdowns instead of field goals. We have been able to come back in games this year. That proves to me what we are doing in the off-season is the right way to do things. Against BYU and Utah, we still had a chance to win both games. Teams have to make their own breaks. I really believe that depth and staying healthy have a lot to do with where a team is."
On defensive end Chase Ortiz ...
"Chase has always been up there with Tommy Blake in sacks and tackles for losses. I am really proud of Chase. His work habits and how he handled everything this summer put him in position to have a great senior season."
