
TCU announces September award winners

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Athletics Department announced its monthly student-athlete awards for the month of September on Thursday.
The four monthly categories are Male and Female Athlete of the Month and Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month.
On the men's side, David Hawthorne was named the Male Athlete of the Month, while Shae Reagan was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Month.
On the women's side, Kourtney Edwards was named the Female Athlete of the Month and Lizzy Karoly was named the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month.
Hawthorne, a senior linebacker on the football team, is currently second on the squad with 35 tackles in five games, nearly equaling his career-high total of 43 stops from last season. The Corsicana, Texas, native is tied for the team lead with two sacks, and places second with 4.5 tackles for a loss. Hawthorne led the Frogs and set a career high with 11 stops in the season-opening 27-0 victory over Baylor.
Reagan, a junior tight end from Idalou, Texas, totaled six receptions for 100 yards during the month. Reagan had a 4-yard touchdown catch in the 24-12 win over Colorado State. Reagan has started four of the fives games so far for the Horned Frogs.
Edwards, a middle blocker on the volleyball team, recorded over four kills per game during September. Edwards posted an average of 1.3 blocks and had a .460 hitting percentage. The TCU sophomore from Haltom City, Texas, was instrumental in the Frogs opening the season with a 12-3 record.
Karoly, a sophomore forward from Escondido, Calif., netted one goal and one assist during the month of September. Karoly's goal proved to be the game-winner in a 3-1 victory over Utah State. Karoly led the Mountain West Conference in shots attempted and shots per game.
