FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU sophomore forward Lizzy Karoly and freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Walters were selected as the Mountain West Conference Co-Offensive and Defensive Players of the week on Monday.
Karoly, a sophomore from Escondido, Calif., netted two of TCU's three goals, including the game winner, in a 3-0 conference victory over nationally ranked Utah this past weekend. With her two-goal performance, Karoly helped TCU snap Utah's 13-match unbeaten streak, while giving the Utes their first conference loss on the year and first loss since Sept 6.
Karoly has now posted five goals on the season and brought her career total to 11.
Walters, a freshman from Oklahoma City, had a dominating night in goal against Utah. Walters recorded 10 saves in the match, while also pitching a shutout. With the shutout, Walters kept the Utes off the scoreboard despite facing 24 shots on the night.
Walters made a key stop in the match late in the second half when she held Adele Letro, who has netted 16 goals on the year and currently ranks No. 3 in the nation in goals per game, off the scoreboard on a penalty kick attempt.
Her shutout marked only the third time all season that Utah had been held without a point for a match.
TCU will close its regular season on Nov. 2 at San Diego State. Start time for the match is set for 3 p.m. (PT).
