Kigen leads runners at Chile Pepper Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Festus Kigen placed 10th overall to lead the TCU men's and women's cross country program at the 19th annual Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday.
Overall, the TCU men placed 22nd out of 32 squads with 557 points, while the women accumulated 692 points to place 26th overall in the final regular season meet.
Leading the Horned Frogs individually was Kigen, who paced TCU for the fifth-straight meet with a time of 30:14.5 to finish in the top-10 for the second-consecutive meet.
"I thought Festus had another solid day. He continues to improve every week," said distance coach Shawn Winget.
Senior Matt Manly followed Kigen by posting a time of 31:51.4 to place 46th overall, while Jacob Womeldorf crossed the finish line in 150th with a time of 34:40.5
Host school Arkansas won the men's event with a team score of 47, while Abilene Christian followed in second with 74 team points.
On the women's side, Tanja Ivandic paced a pack of runners, clocking a time of 23:17.4 to finish 101st overall.
"The women continue to get better. They just need to keep improving week by week and separate themselves a little bit," said Winget.
Danielle Selner finished second overall for TCU, running 23:26.3 to finish in 112th overall. Also competing for TCU were Ashley Young and Ashley Millerick, who finished with a time of 24:10.5 and 24:28.7, respectively.
Texas Tech was crowned team champion on the women's side with 83 total points, while host school Arkansas collected runner-up honors with 87 total points.
TCU will compete next at the Mountain West Conference Championships on Oct. 27 in San Diego.
