FORT WORTH, Texas - Cosmin Cotet was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Cotet went 3-1 last week in the men's first two matches of the season, recording two doubles and one singles victory. Against UT-Pan American, Cotet teamed up with Stuart Row to defeat UTPA's duo of Vij and Cantu 8-4, clinching the doubles point. Later on in the match, Cotet played in the singles No. 1 slot for the first time in his TCU career, making quick work of Gary Bianco 6-0, 6-1.
The Silvestru, Romania, native helped get the Horned Frogs off on the right foot against No. 23 Clemson, teaming up with Kriegler Brink to upset the tandem of Clement Reix and Ryan Young in the No. 1 spot, 8-6. In singles action, Cotet fell just short to No. 46 Clement Reix, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-3.
The accolade is the first for Cotet in his career at TCU, and also the first for the TCU men this season.
The Frogs will return to action on Feb. 7 when they travel to Arlington, Texas, to face UTA at 1:30 p.m.
