Day One
HELLO FROM SCOTLAND!!
Day 1 of my travels to the UNITED KINGDOM and the beautiful city of Edinburgh, Scotland have been exactly that - travel!! A total of 9 hours in the air on my journey from DFW thru Atlanta and then on to Edinburgh. I really caught a break on the flight, as it was direct and I missed the airports in London and was really happy about that. Upon arrival into Edinburgh from the plane all one could see was water and green countryside, quite a contrast to our semi-drought stricken area in DFW. Also, it was a crystal clear day with a landing temperature of 57 degrees - and the crisp air took your breath away. Basketball Scotland Director Donna Finnie met us at the airport and took us to our lodging at the unbelieveable Holyrood Hotel - this place is plush!! Rooms are really nice as well as all the amenities and we have access to a Butler who is on call 24 hours a day. Now, that is Big Time for an old country boy like me from Sanger, Tx. After checking in and locating all the facilities for the upcoming clinic, decided to do a little shopping in the Scottish Parliament District and as usual, I have a long list of friends to take care of - so the first on the list was the wonderful, awesome assistant coaches that I get to work with everyday. My mind was made up to really get something nice for these "Angels of the Office" so I went into the nicest store in downtown Edinburgh and money was no object at the moment for Tonya Benton, Yolanda Broughton, Tricia Porter, and Jodi Christian. But, at the moment, was the key phrase!! After looking at perfumes, chocolates, purses, clothing, etc. and then seeing the prices - the pound here nearly doubles the value of our dollar - I decided that a historical and very colorful regrigerator magnet would have the same impact. And, if I purchased 4 magents then I could get the next one free!! Could not pass up that bargain!! So with that purchase, i got 5 cossed off the shopping list. Next, I had to get something for Coach Jeff Mittie and good friend Gary Patterson - and thinking that with those two wonderful young wives in Shanna and Kelsey respectively, I decided that these guys have it all, so really no need to buy them anything. That shopping list is dwindling!! Well, got to go as our first of 6 coaching clinic sessions begins within the hour!! THINK PURPLE, THINK TCU!!
Until next time, Larry Tidwell
