Horned Frog golfers finish 12th at Georgia tournament

ROCKY FACE, Ga. - TCU leaped up three spots in the final standings into 12th place at the highly competitive Carpet Capital Collegiate. On Sunday, the Horned Frogs posted their best effort of the 54-hole tournament, a 2-under 286.
With an 841 (-23), Alabama won the event by six shots over Clemson (847). TCU, which played the final two rounds at 2-under, finished with a total of 873 (+9) at The Farm Golf Club (Par 72, 7,002 yards).
Senior Drew Stoltz (215, -1) was the top player for the Horned Frogs, finishing tied for 27th among 90 competitors. He registered TCU's best round of the tournament on Sunday, a 2-under 70. He opened the final round with birdies on three of his first four holes.
Just one stroke and three spots behind Stoltz was junior Franklin Corpening (216, E). Corpening shot an even-par 72 after shooting a 3-under on the first nine holes.
Sophomore Jon McLean, who grabbed medalist honors at the season-opening tournament earlier in the week, tied for 54th place after his second consecutive 73. He wound up with a 6-over 222.
With a 1-under 71, sophomore Jesse Speirs missed his career-low round by just stroke. As a result, he moved up 15 positions on the final day into a share of 65th (225, +9).
Tom Miles tied for 71st place at 226 (+10). After opening the tournament with an 81, the sophomore was just 1-over during his final 36 holes of play.
TCU is next in action at the Memphis Intercollegiate Oct. 2-3 in Memphis, Tenn. The Frogs have three more tournaments on the fall schedule.
